League23 offer a number of styles so that every student has a class that best suits their skills and interests. League23 only offer classes for one style per class - no ‘fusion’ or multiple styles per class. This is so that each class can solely focus on the technique and skills needed to improve on this style.
Jazz is a high energy style of dance with dynamic movements often performed to popular modern music. League23 will include both technique and performance components within jazz classes, developing the appropriate skills and movement quality in a safe yet challenging environment. In jazz we do not only focus on one style of movement. It is so important for students to learn all ‘sub-styles’ of jazz so they become versatile throughout the genre. This means that under the umbrella of ‘jazz’ as a whole, students also focus on learning elements of hip hop, jazz funk, broadway jazz, commercial jazz, technical jazz etc.
Lyrical dance style has its primary basis in ballet, combining the many technical elements of classical ballet with the freedom and airier aspects of jazz, contemporary and modern dance. It is typically considered a subcategory of jazz and/or contemporary dance, the latter itself being an emerging category. Lyrical dance is expressive, simultaneously subtle and dynamic, focused on conveying musicality and emotion through movement.
Hip Hop is a new style that we introduced in 2022. If you love to pop and lock this is for you. Combined with body isolations, musicality and strength Hip Hop is a high energy genre that so many students love.
This year we are introducing a Hip Hop troupe for selected ages and dances and we can't wait to get started.
Contemporary dance is a genre of dance that involves interpretive movement to create a story. It uses dance techniques and methods found in ballet, modern dance and postmodern dance, and it also draws from other philosophies of movement that are outside the realm of classical dance technique.
The dance genre encompassing rhythms and percussion with your feet. Learning to articulate and execute movements using the ankle, heel & toe to create many different sounds to a musical track or acapella with just the sounds of your feet.
A class encompassing gymnastic skills and learning to execute them safely. Beginning with Bridge & Cartwheels and progressing through to walkovers and side & front aerials for more advanced students. The basis of our acro classes are in correlation with the students' dance training. The students will not learn 'gymnastics' but a repertoire of floor based acro skills that can be used in dance.
In 2023 Acro Classes will be divided based on age, ability and skills that they are able to perform. This is so that all students have a level that is best suited for them and their progress through the style. Students can always progress to a higher level over the course of the year. These requirements are listed in 'Timetable'.
These classes are designed to help students increase their flexibility and strength as well as overall muscular and cardio-vascular endurance. These classes build skills that are used in dance along with conditioning the body. Skills learnt are a combination of leaps, kicks and turns. Classes blend stretching movement with the graceful control of dance to tone and invigorate the body and strengthen key muscles. The aim is to develop core strength, ease and openness in the joints and a flexible, well balanced body. These classes are directed towards Competition Team members but all students are welcome.
These classes are aimed at students 2-4 years old. Students explore basic movements and rhythms through music, making learning enjoyable. This is an important social and physical opportunity as it assists in enhancing the young students mobility, flexibility, strength and proprioceptive system.
Tiny Tot classes will be available in: Tap, Jazz, Ballet and Acro.
Dancers attend private lessons based on their ability, dedication and potential according to the teaching staff. If your child attends a private lesson for competition work they will learn a solo routine. Students work one on one with the teacher, receiving undivided attention for both training and performance purposes - towards various goals and events including Examinations and Eisteddfods. Private lessons are the time in which examination work or eisteddfod solos, duos and trios are choreographed and rehearsed.
Private Lesson students are selected by Miss Dani and must be in the competition team to be eligible.
Ballet is the basis of all forms of dance.
It teaches the fundamentals of technique, the strength, poise and posture of a dancer and develops all aspects of dance.
At the moment we only have Ballet classes on offer for students Mini and below. All other dancers will work on their technique in their skills/technique classes.
Traditionally a dance in partners, Latin ballroom is an upbeat, energetic form of dance encompassing rhythm and movement in the latin style. Dances including the Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Jive and more are what is taught in these classes and learning the style that each requires.
Performance Troupe classes are where students come to learn Competition/Eisteddfod Troupe routines. These students are also offered extra performance opportunities throughout the year at various events and locations. Performance troupes are only able to be joined if students do the required prerequisite classes for their age bracket in the style they wish to join troupe in.
